16-ounce can purchased from ABV in Hillsboro, OR. Poured into a tumbler.

I had this beer in July 2022, and I'm adding this to the BA database along with a review to make sure I don't do that again.

-----

Alchemize is made with a new experimental hop product from YCH that incorporates Simcoe, Mosaic, Citra, and Phantasm powder. The beer is incongruously hazy for a west coast IPA, not opaque but certainly translucent. It has a yellow-orange body with a bright white head. Foam is dense, with good retention and lacing.

The nose and flavor are very fruity. Some notes of grapes and plums that rise above a murky bed of indistinct overripe fruit. Tropical fruit funk. Mild bitterness. An odd note of birthday cake. Sweeter than I prefer.

The body is unexpectedly heavy and filling. Moderate carbonation.

Man, I'm trying trying hard to say something good here, but the beer just isn't helping me out. I don't want to think about what it just did to my palate.

The label calls Alchemize a "west coast IPA," but I'm not bamboozled. This is nothing more than a poor hazy IPA that just happens to be a little clearer than its brethren. I like Simcoe, Mosaic, and Citra hops, but it sure seems like they're being overwhelmed by the Phantasm powder.

This big fruity mess is easily the worst IPA I've ever tried from Block 15, and is the 3rd unappealing IPA in a row I've had from them recently. I would not drink this again, and I'm starting to regard all new Block 15 IPAs with suspicion. Sad.
