Poured into a Seattle Beer Week pint glass. Pours a hazy, light to medium gold with a fine, three finger white head with great retention and nice lacing. Aroma of pale malt, citrus and tropical fruit hops, orange, lemon, mixed light tropical fruit, a touch of dankness. Flavor is pale malt, citrus and tropical fruit hops, mixed tropical fruit, grapefruit, lemon and a touch of dankness. Light to moderate citrus rind bitterness in the finish. Medium bodied with light to moderate creaminess. I liked the A side (West Coast) version of this and decided to try the hazy version to see how the same hops would taste in this style, although I'm not a hazy fan. I lucked out with the last can in the store, and glad I tried it. The malt has no detectable caramel (light in the WC), but is fairly typical for hazy. The hops have a similar profile of citrus and tropical fruit, but no pine like in Side A. Block 15 came through for me by providing some moderate, but satisfactory hop bitterness, not WC levels (nor usual Block 15 intensity), but nice for a hazy. At the tail end of the taste, there is a pleasant fruit ester character that I noted in Side A too. I'm not sure which hop is responsible, but I liked this note in both ales. Interesting concept.
