A brand new American IPA lands at our locations this Friday. As rugged and unique as the rocky shorelands of the Oregon Coast, this bright and flavorful 6.80% IPA showcases both southern hemisphere and PNW hops with a blend of citrus, pine, and herbaceous notes.

We decided to add Biscuit Rye malt to Rocky Shores to add depth and spice, creating a balanced yet complex IPA. Chinook, Simcoe, Enigma, and Nelson Sauvin hops used in the boil and dry hop lend a stirring aroma to this beer that has a big personality.

Poured into a Seattle Beer Week glass. Pours a medium golden amber with a three finger white head with great retention and solid lacing. Aroma of biscuit malt, citrus and tropical fruit hops, grapefruit, faint pine and herbal dankness. Flavor is lightly biscuit pale malt, citrus and tropical fruit hops, grapefruit, lemon, mixed tropical fruit, pine and vague dankness; moderate bitterness in the finish. Medium bodied with moderate creaminess; nice mouth feel for an IPA. A nice example of the new profile for Northwest IPAs with classic citrus and pine, but also Southern hemisphere fruit hops; also the more muted hop bitterness of the latter. I found the hop bill winning even though I'm not a big fan of the low bitterness fruit hops; the blend worked for me. The bitterness is at the low end of what I want from an IPA, but enjoyable enough, largely because it leaves a lingering pine resin bitterness after the finish. The light biscuit in the malt was a welcome component. Nicely done as I expect from Block 15.

16oz can. No dating information found.
Mostly clear, pale gold colored body. Two fingers of white head upon pouring, and this results in a thin cap and ring. Leaves behind wide webs of lacing.
Aroma of citrus and tropical fruit, and a bit of pine.
Taste expands to include green grape and peach, as well as orange, lemon, and pine resin. Extra bite from the rye, and the higher bitterness lasts throughout. Aftertaste lingers with the sweet citrus and stone fruit.
Slightly more than medium mouthfeel. Has a bite but no burn. Very good carbonation.
Juicy without being overripe, pleasant bite without a scrunched face, clean finish without being overly dry.

Clear golden amber brew with plenty of white foam in the goblet. Aromatic with lemon and resins. Pleasing slushy mouthfeel with a sharp finish. Flavorful with apricot, a touch of green grapes, browned biscuits. This is a little acidic, but the interesting hops flavors last to the end. Moderate bitter aftertaste. Another excellent brew from Block 15. From the 16 oz can purchased at the local Community Coop market. Dated 03/26/24.
