This 6.80% IPA is in collaboration with @sunriverbrewing, showcasing a brand new style, Southwest IPA. This crisp and aromatic beer captures the essence of hot days and cool nights in the high desert, with notes of pineapple and grapefruit.

Every year, we brew Alumni Club in collaboration with a brewer who completed OSU’s Fermentation Science program to celebrate Oregon State’s lasting impact on the brewing industry.

This year’s iteration was developed in collaboration with fellow OSU graduate Mason at Sunriver Brewing. We made our Southwest IPA with Neo-Mexicanus Medusa and Amarillo hops, plus El Dorado, Talus, Sabro, Calypso Salvo, and Krush Hyperboost, along with a touch of flaked maize.

16oz can purchased at Huckleberry's, in Spokane, WA. Canned on June 19, 2025, per the stamp on the bottom rim of the can.

Poured into an IPA glass, this was a slightly chill-hazed lemon-yellow amber color. Big, sudsy, rocky, bone-white head that was extremely long-lived. Lots of lace.

Aroma was herbal, a little spicy, and surprisingly bready.

Weird flavor. Lemony, citrusy, and herbal bitterness up front. Then, a mineralish bitter note on the fadeout.

Medium bodied, with a slightly oily mouth feel.

Hitting this at just over 3 months age, it may have been too long a wait.

Look: Golden in color and slightly opaque with a nice-looking head that settles to a pillow and leaves great lacing behind

Aroma: Cannabis, herbal tea, navel orange, pine sap, tangerine, crushed fir needles, light earthy notes, and freshly baked bread

Taste: Opens up with a huge hit of resinous pine sap that is so convincing, it almost feels sticky/sappy on the tongue, and this is followed by citrusy fir needles. An orange-led brigade opens up in the middle and develops as layers of dank swirl around, slowly unpacking with notes of diesel and fresh herb and closes with more pine and a nice bite

Mouthfeel: Full, lightly slick, clean, medium-high carbonation, and moderately dry on the finish

Overall: This is some tasty stuff. It feels like it had been a bit since these folks made another one of these Alumni Club beers and when I saw Sunriver was involved, that put the purchase clearly in the “go-zone.” The Neo Mexicanus hop brings a ton of resinous conifer and Cannabis to the table, while the Amarillo keeps it from being “too dank” and they work nicely in tandem to create this deliciously hoppy Southwest IPA. Highly recommended

Handsome amber brew with abundant foam in the snifter. Mouth-filling body with plenty of suds. Quite aromatic in the vein of peaches and apricot with a whiff of pine. Crisp finish with acres of fruit flavors of peach with a dose of mango. Rather bitter aftertaste but the slight sweetness lingers in each sip. This is really quite nice, and despite the astringency it's one to sip with some pleasure. From the 16 oz can purchased at Elizabeth Station. Dated 06/11/25.

Poured into a Seattle Beer Week pint glass. Pours a lightly hazy, light to medium golden amber with a two finger white head with good retention and nice lacing. Aroma of pale malt, citrus, fruit and dank hops, lemon, ripe tropical fruit and a little catty dankness. Flavor is pale malt, citrus and dank hops, lemon, lime, grapefruit, green melon, herbal dankness and hints of pine. Solid grapefruit rind bitterness in the finish. Medium bodied with light to moderate creaminess. The aroma made me think this was going to be a fruit bomb, but the flavor is mostly citrus and dankness, although with mild notes of tropical fruit and even pine. A crisp, refreshing summer IPA.
