In February of 2012 we brewed a blonde ale fermented with two strains of brettanomyces as a topping beer for our wild programs. Two barrels were reserved for this special anniversary project and in the fall of 2012 we added freshly harvested petit verdot grapes from southern Oregon. We are pleased to offer this unique beer for out 5th anniversary. 480 bottles produced.

Pour is a dark ruby red with a thin fizzy white head that dies immediately. Nose has a light touch of acetic, assertive grape notes, a bit of grape soda, leathery brett, and moderate oak. Taste is a bit meatier, grapes are fleshier, touch of leather, light oak. Light body, softer carb, fairly nice body.

An interesting beer - not aged in petit verdot barrels, but rather aged in oak barrels with actual petit verdot grapes added.
The impact was pretty obvious - the grapes provided for a pinkish-ruby hue - no head. Tart and funky with heavy brett notes and equally heavy vinous notes from the grapes. A bit of a lactic bite makes a 1/2 pour seem like the ideal serving. Definitely not for those without an appreciation for wine, or at the very least, grapes. Great stuff - probably my one chance to ever have this.

A: Beautiful ruby color with high clarity. Doesn't produce any head, just an incomplete film of bubbles.
S: Lactic acid, strawberry, pie cherries, wine barrel. Nice, but perhaps the weakest aspect of the beer. More carbonation might bring more aroma to the surface.
T: Tart and fruity, with noticeable but not excessive tannins. Light and playful, reminiscent of a high-quality Lambrusco. The grapes are definitely contributing strongly to this brew. Some yogurty, lactic acid.
M: Low carbonation, medium body. Lingers intensely in the whole mouth. Light astringency starts to be felt in the cheeks after half the glass.
O: A very unique and enjoyable beer, although pretty far off the beaten path. I'm finding it highly drinkable, although I want to slow down and savor it more. I'm sad this was a 1 bottle per person limit, I'd definitely like to have more of this.
