On tap at Rohrbach's Beer Hall in Rochester, NY.
Pours a dark brown/light black with a small head, and a little bit of lacing.
Smells like chocolate, smoke, roasted malt, and vanilla.
This is really reminiscent of Naked Dove's 45 Fathoms Porter, which makes sense, because it's apparently the forerunner of that beer from Dave Schlosser's time at Rohrbach's. There's light coffee, heavy roast, some light smokiness, and a hint of cream and vanilla. Really tasty.
This is medium bodied, maybe a little thin, with a creamy mouthfeel.
Good stuff here.

Rohrbach Sam Patch Porter is a brown, cola colored ale with a pillowy, light brown head that has good retention and leaves nice lacing. It has a roasty aroma, like coffee. There is a touch of sweetness in the nose, like caramel. It has a smooth, chewy medium body with a dry finish. The flavor is very roasty-- mostly coffee. It has good balance and the flavors are well blended. It's very drinkable.

Presentation: It was poured from tap into a pint glass.
Appearance: It had a very dark brown colored body that was nearly opaque. Its head was tan in color, thick and foamy with good retention and lacing.
Smell: The aroma was that of roasted malts with notes of ground espresso.
Taste/Mouth feel: It has a very good full flavor of roasted malts. There are nice hints of espresso coffee and a slight smokiness to the malt as well. It has a medium to full body with a smooth, easy to drink texture and mild carbonation.
Notes: Very well done!!!

Very dark brown body with a bubbly brown head. Excellent appearance. Lots of roasty malts in the aroma, which leans towards coffee. Nice smoky flavour, with a bit of cocoa, vanilla and a dash of coffee and cream. Very smooth, almost creamy, on the palate. Excellent drinkability.

This porter is a rich brown-black. Has a malty coffee flavor and is extremely smooth tasting. Not too sweet. Not too bitter. Not too heavy. There are a lot of porters out there that taste like a stout. Sam Patch is a good example of what a porter should be.

Black with an off white head that provides some lacing. The aroma is malty with coffee chocolate hints.
Initial taste is roasty, but a bit watered down. Its maltyness doesnt really kick in till the end when the chocolate hues come out to play as well. Medium in body with light carbonation and goes down easy.

Stout more than a porter. Good dark appearance with initial mocha head. Dry and roasty. Grains and a bit malty but definately not sweet. Medium to thin mouthfeel and a bit high on carbonation but otherwise quite drinkable and one of their better ones. Sampling with john and Murtyman.

This is one good porter. When it arrived at my table it was a deep brown with a minimal tan head. The head diminished but stuck around thorough lacing the glass nicely. The smell was of malts chocolate and coffee. The taste was rich well balanced between the malts and other mixes no bitterness like other porters I have had. The beer also presents with the warmth of alcohol. The mouthfeel is really smooth and lightly carbonated. This porter accompanies any meal well with its smoothness or can stand alone as a good session beer. The complexity of the flavor and feel makes this highly recommended. I cant say enough about this porter.

Dark black with a nice espresso-tinted head of foam. Nice lacing as well. Aromas are all roasted malts, chocolate, coffee, and more. The taste follows suit, and there is a unique vanilla bean flavor locked in this brew as well. Find it. Mouthfeel is medium bodied>thick and quite rewarding. Drinkability is very good as well. Another nice brewpub porter in Rochester.

Eye Candy: Ink black with swirls of tan and ruby red in the sunlight. Thick tan head. Retention throughout.
The Nose Knows: Caramel and chocolate notes detected, maybe some black cherries thrown in? Bold alcohol-on the scotch side. Very inviting.
Tongueland: Malt sweetness upfront, maple syrup like, bitter chocolate middle, finishes crisp with a slight bitter grain/hop finish. Different from other Porters as it didn't finish with that bitter coffee dry finish.Thick m/f, creamy, coated the palate.
Bender Factor: Excellent variation and interpretation of style. Hands down one of the best Porters out there. I liked it due to it's complexity and the range of flavors. Not your typical everyday Porter.

This porter poured a dark black with some tan lacing, but not too much head, just a tan ring. There was some decent lacing though. The smell was a very different kind of porter than I usually drink, but mixing it up is fine with me. It had plenty of sweet caramel and chocolate mixed in with a healthy dose of cherries soaked in rum. Also had a smell akin to a huge bowl of coffee ice cream. The taste was sweet with notes of honey, real maple syrup, smoked malts and finished off with some more traditional porter like roasted bitter grains and hops. The mouthfeel was not much like the porters I have had as it was much creamier without that bitter bite at the end. Very tasty none the less.

Outstanding porter with flavors of burnt coffee, sweet chocolate malt. Gorgeous, creamy, brown/dark tan head. Two mugs up!
