Rohrbach Rye Pilsner is a pretty clear light golden lager with a dense white head that fades to a film and leaves sheets of lacing on the glass. It has a sweet, tangy, spicy aroma. It smells pretty complex-- it kind of took me off guard. There are notes of berries, cinnamon, lemon and nutmeg-- all from the rye, I'd imagine. It's just lighter than medium bodied with a quick, slick finish. It's very smooth, but it leaves the tongue a bit chalky. The rye is prominent in the flavor. There is a touch of syrupy sweetness and a sour note. The bitterness is ample and it's balanced well. It doesn't taste as complex as it smells, but there is a depth to the flavor. It's fruity, wooden and pretzely. There are notes of coriander seed and sourdough bread. It's very engaging for Pilsner. Consider this growler punished!
