Parting Glass Series
This is the unruly older brother of our most popular beer, Scotch Ale. It was aged in Iron Smoke Bourbon Barrels. More malt, more sweetness, and more alcohol, the Imperial Scotch is still smooth and balanced which makes it drinkable, yet dangerous. When the temperatures begin to drop the Imperial Scotch will keep you warm!

Bottle purchased at Iron Smoke Whiskey (where the barrels came from!) in Fairport, NY.
This pours a golden brown-ish color, with a small head, and lots of lacing.
This smells pretty great, honestly, with a touch of vanilla, some lightly caramelly bourbon, oak, char, fig, toffee, and chocolate.
I really wasn’t sure what to expect here for a few reasons, but it ended up being pretty good, really. Iron Smoke is not known for having the best whiskey, but that doesn’t negatively affect this one – there’s some warming toasty oak, a touch of vanilla, and a small hit of boozy and caramelly bourbon, but the base beer here, the imperialized version of the classic Rohrbach Scotch Ale, is strong enough to take that whiskey shot. There’s dark fruit, toffee, breadiness, and chocolate – it’s really nicely malty.
This is medium bodied, slightly boozy, but pretty drinkable all the same.
I was very pleasantly surprised with this one – it’s good work from Rohrbach.
