An authentically German black lager, Schwarzbier is a beloved style for it's full-bodied, complex characteristics while being thoroughly drinkable and lending itself to at least one or two refills. Decadent notes of Hershey's syrup fill the nose, rounded out by a hint of medium-roast coffee. The roast-y, chocolate-y aspects translate proper to the flavor, conjoined with elements of toasted grains and bread crust.

On tap at Rohrbach Brewing in Rochester, NY.
This one pours a fairly dark black color, with a small head, and lots of lacing.
This smells pleasantly chocolatey, with some roast and just a touch of smoke.
Rohrbach tends to do these things pretty well, and this dark lager is no exception. It’s rich, and drinks bigger and more luscious than the ABV would suggest. There’s chocolate, a nice herbal roastiness, a touch of hop character, and a wisp of smoke.
This is very drinkable and nicely creamy, with a smooth, rich finish.
This is definitely in the upper echelon of Rohrbach beers that I’ve had so far.
