This was my third offering of the day at the Nürnberg Altstadtfest, on 26SEP09. I wandered around other areas of the Fest and found this one... I noticed other people reviewed this as a dunkel, but the Kitzmann web says it's a Märzen, which is the style I felt it to be when enjoying it.

Though served in a lovely, decorated ceramic mug, I was able to espy a regular glass of the suds at the Faß. The bier itself was a clear, medium golden hue. Up top was a light beige head, which was creamy and smooth like mousse. It lasted well, leaving good stick in its wake. Light bready aromas hit the nostrils first, accompanied by some caramel. The medium body was cool, though it had a light prickle along for the ride.

Has light sweetness here, with restrained hints of caramel, plus a welcome touch of a honeyish character. Hops are mildly flowery, lasting well on the palate. Lots of subtle flavors melding here; a real nice brew! Prosit!!

I love a good Bavarian Dunkel and this exactly that. It has a rich roasted malt smell that the Germans have mastered over time. It is not over roasty like a lot of dark beers. You can smell other aromas even some mild hops. It is a light brown amber beer in comparison to other Dunkels. It has some nice dark lace but average head and carbonation. I have to agree with triple H it has a metallic taste that mainly lingers in the aftertaste. It has mild hop tones just like in the aroma but it mainly has a caramel taste but it is not overly sweet. It is a great beer with a hearty and meaty German meal.

0.5L capped German bottle. Dunkel Spezialbier. I wasn't getting much head so I gave it a good splash at the end. I still ended up with a half finger head that was a bit foamy and light brown in color. The beer is dark amber colored, almost like a dark tea with bubbles rising up all around the edges. Deep malty aroma, a bit of caramel as well and a fairly strong metallic twang. Malty and clean flavor. Butterscotch, caramel, and a bit of biscuit malt. Kind of like a crisp, scaled back doppelbock. Solid watery mouthfeel that leaves a bit of sugar on your tongue. Metallic aroma was not in the second beer I picked up. Overall a nice flavorfull beer of which I could drink several.
