Mort Subite Cassis

Dull pale pink to orange in color, with cream colored head. Smells of cough syrup, raspberries and grape candy like LifeSavers. Strong fruit and weird musty smell. Very strong flavor too, weird. Some bubblegum. Not too tart, with a quick finish. Quick with a light spritz. Interesting.

Pours with a deep purple body, slightly hazy. Purple tinted off white head, quite frothy with good retention

Smell, the blackcurrants hit you in the face instantly, quite sweet but with a little tart acid on the nose

Taste, sweet and tart blackcurrants are abundant, some hint of red wine vinegar, little bit of lasting dryness

This isnt a big bad dry unsweeted lambic like cantillon but it is very drinkable, the low abv makes this a tasty refreshing beer for someone on a hot day

25cl bottle: This beer pours with a fairly large red-tinged head. It subsided quickly, despite the fizziness of the beer. It is a clear, lighter reddish-copper color. The aroma is all curants. They smell a bit tart . A nice tart lambic flavor , but I agree with it being a bit artificial tasting. Rates an OK for the style, but not a must have.

Pours a hazy reddish-copper with a huge ivory head, even with an extremely gentle pour. Very, very lacy. Here's where I thought I had made a very big mistake. The aroma smells of rotting fruit. I mean, it smells bad. Hints of sour blackberry but lots of smelly rotting fruit in there.

Fortunately, it tastes much better than it smells. Sour lambic with some sweet/tart blackberry. Some serious sweetness in there but not cloyingly so. Sweet and sour are very nicely balanced. The tart fruitiness is most apparent in the finish and lightly puckering aftertaste. Not an everyday beer but it acquits itself nicely as an apertif or maybe an afterdinner drink.

on tap at the Mort Subite cafe in Brussels. This is an almost-purple like colour with a small off-white head of foam. Aromas are all about the sugar, yeast, and cassis. The taste is a black currant explosion with a small bready malt background and quick snappy finish. The mouthfeel is thin, but the drinkability is excellent as this beer is very refreshing. Not traditional at all, but quite nice, none-the-less.

Bottle – Pourred a deep purple/amber brew with a nice bubbly head. Great carbonation with good head retention. Aroma of cassis is very present. Taste is very sweet and cassis are easily identifiable. Very easy to drink, a bit likes juice. Acidic and tarter aftertaste no very much present for a lambic. Overall, a very enjoyable beer but probably not as complex as some other fruit lambic can be.

I spent some time in France a couple years back. I really came to like the flavour of Cassis (in/on everything). So it goes without saying that I liked this Mort Subite. But then, who wouldn't like fruit juice? This has all the aroma and flavour of cassis, but where's the lambic edge? It's there, but not really of note. Is this drinkable - certainly, I could drink it all day, but if I could find a better cassis lambic, I'd drink that instead. So - good, but too much malternative vibe for me.

Rich tangy currant aroma, slightly champagne-like. Reddish brown with stiff thick head. Flavor and mouthfeel are drier than Lindeman's fruit lambics. You can also taste more of the beer than just the fruit. Closer to the taste of the taste of a gueze than Lindeman's as well with the sourness.

Its pretty good and a fruity and refreshing beer, but to much like Ribena sometimes, but its still nicley made and nice to drink.

Decent lambic, on the sweet side with abundant black currant flavours. Mellow tartness and a little too easy to drink.
