The first bier of my 2025 European trip, and my first bier in Poland! Had two 0.5l pours of this at the House of Beer in Krakow on 15SEP25. Cost was 20 Pzl each (about $5.78). The list of draft biers said this was a "historical Polish beer". The bartender described it as an amber, smoked bier which hadn't been brewed since before WWII. Sounded interesting so I gave it a shot!
Served in an imperial nonic glass, it was clear, rich amber-mahogany color. Had a creamy, thin, fine tan head with nice lace. Had a caramel and toffee nose with hints of smoke. Body was medium to medium-plus and was quite smooth going down.
Flavor was quite malty, with more toffee and caramel and substantial smoky notes. Had a hint of fruity action to it, like some Weizenbocks I've had. Quite tasty, all in all. I would have had a 3rd glass but it kicked!
Na zdrowie!!
