Tasted by a half pint at the Devonshire Cat, Sheffield, on 2 Aug. 07. Served by a handpump fitted w/ a sparkler.
A: slight haze comes with a beautiful amber hue, topped with a light beige head that lasts pretty well.
S: a whiff of apples & cane-sugar leads towards a mildly spicy flow of hops, while the maltiness offers a solid backbone. But a closer sniff reveals that the light touches of white grapes and pear-ish, sour-sweet alcoholic fruits somehow denotes the beer's (suspiciously) "semi-off" condition...(?)
T: predominant flavours of apples and seedless white grapes intertwine with a fast developing grainy and caramely maltiness; the mid-taste is quite fruity but light in hop-bitterness, leaving only a mildly dryish touch of hops at the back to accompany the more pronounced malty tail.
M&D: soft and smooth in texture, yet slightly thin-bodied for 4.8%abv.; overall, this is an easy-drinking Bitter lacking bolder flavours to be an outstanding ale.
