Well, it's not black - far from it, actually. It's really more of a coffee orange-brown, with some nice autumn leaf highlights and a velvety cappuccino head. The nose is full of caramelized sugars: marshmallow, flan, vanilla creme brulee, plus an odd but not unwelcome tangent of licorice and a breeze of lavendery hops. Mild, but complex, as it is on the palate. Mightily fruity and vinous, with generous grape, berry, and rose notes that you don't have to go looking for to find. Deliciously perfumey, yet it carries a heftier depth with it, of toffee, nuts, a bit of licorice, and even a little chocolate. Herbal and sweet and smooth, almost full, yet nicely dry in the finish. Very good, a unique and thoroughly enjoyable flavor profile.
