Silvester is the German name for New Year's Eve, named after Pope Sylvester I, whose feast day is December 31st. Silvesterbier is a rarity even in Germany. Neuwitzberg is hamlet nestled in the alps on the German-Polish border and they keep the tradition of Silvesterbier alive. It is a moderately hopped, reddish gold lager made at 15 degrees Plato with an abv around 6.5 percent. The Neuwitzberg brewers included a dark malted wheat-in violation of the Rhieheitsgebot. In 1714 the authorities investigated this violation and moved to close the offending breweries. They were saved when the Prinz-regent of Bavaria intervened as Neuwitzberger Silvesterbier was declared by the Prinz as “A totally delicious and badass Lager.” An exception was granted. Heater Allen, Gold Dot and Bierstadt Lagerhaus humbly offer our interpretation.

16oz can from Tavour. Pale, clear golden, small head fades to thin layer. Grainy, biscuity aroma, faint citrus. Taste presents a little tingle right up front, followed by bready notes. The finish is mildly fruity and partially dry with a little bit of lingering bitterness.

On tap at the Imperial the other day.
The beer pours a bright golden amber color with good head retention and considerable lacing. On the nose there's light vanilla, cookie dough and a hint of pepper, in what smells like it will be a pretty tasty lager. The flavor profile replicates the nose, in what is a very rich, malty, satisfying lager. This really delivers a considerable amount of flavor, coming across as a rich, somewhat malty helles lager. Mouthfeel is fairly full, with a long, very smooth finish. Alcohol is very well integrated into the flavor profile, and so drinkability is superb. It's a bit sweeter than I would probably like, but that's really splitting hairs.
Very nice collaborative effort from the talented brewers at Heater Allen and Gold Dot. Impressive beer.

Clear bright yellow-amber brew with abundant foam in the Scotch thistle glass. Aroma of hay with some greenery. Taste is malty and rather sweet to start. Lovely sudsy and lush mouthfeel. Overall this is sort of a Malt Liquor but not so strong. Hops are pretty much lost but there is some stemmy sensation and a mild herbal aftertaste. Overall this is eminently drinkable and tastes stronger than its ABV. A tasty interpretation of this old German style. From the 16 oz can purchased at O'Shea Brewing. Dated 01/01/26.
