Pours a very dark, near black, reddish brown, large tan head that leaves a ring for the rest of the drink and lacing. Nose is earthy, roasted malts, and some spice. Flavor is dry and earthy, mild roast and coffee notes. The rye brings and interesting flavor, making it traditional and very different at the same time. Mouthfeel is medium. Overall, a good stout from a guy who makes very good stouts...although not my favorite from Old Chimney.

A: A nice 2.5 finger tan head of fine bubbles on an aggressive pour. The head dissipates to a film that does not leave any lacing. Very dark brown, almost black, with mahogany highlights. Looks like a porter.
S: Dark roast, dark chocolate, little bit of booze. The rye definitely comes through and reminds me of anise.
T: Raw chocolate. The rye again comes through with hints of anise in the aftertaste. It is a bit different than a porter in the States (and England for that matter). No alcohol at all. The oatmeal and rye really add complexity to the brew. Typical roasty porter with the creaminess in front from the oatmeal and then the sharpness from the rye.
MF: Very nice. The oatmeal works very well and makes this a savory choice. I would call this a medium-heavy feel.
O: Would purchase again. It was quite enjoyable.
