Dec. 2006: 500 ml clear bottle, courtesy of Cardinal pub, Stavanger. ABV is 4.0%. Brewed with Golding and Challenger hops. Clear golden to amber colour, low head. Lightstruck hops aroma (which I really don’t mind much), with notes of malt vinegar. Flavour has also some malt vinegar, lemony notes too, slightly metallic hops. Thin and lagerish mouthfeel, fairly dry. Can’t say I’m much impressed by the Ventnor Brewery so far.

Coming in a clear 500ml bottle, BB FEB 09, served cool in a straight imperial pint glass.
A: a dark reddish amber hue comes with a semi-moderate/semi-lively carbonation and a fluffy white head settling down to a thin carpet.
S: skunkiness fm the clear-bottling, on top of sweet but thin malt-candy with a little edge of caramelised sugar-cane, hints of Goldings' citric fruits and a little boiled yum. Pretty traditional and slightly boring, but not unpleasant overall.
T: pretty fizzy upfront with a touch of skunkiness, then a thin and sour-sweet fruity swallow of diluted pale malts leads fast to boiled root-vegetables and a residual taste of crystal sugar drags on in the end; only a tiny amount of hop bitterness is shown, and a little too late.
M&D: quite gassy on the palate, which is not enjoyable for an Ale, so to speak; the body is light and thin-ish in the end, the flavour is boring and unstructured... Don't know what it might be like on cask, but this filtered version in a clear bottle is definitely a lacklustre waste of space.

Appearance: light brown/gold, good clarity, not much head formation
Aroma: lightly skunky, malty caramel, feint strawberries, honey
Flavor: light initial malt sweetness before a somewhat acidic backwash riding a wave of herbally hops, green olives(?), finishes dryish with a lingering hop bitterness
Mouthfeel: light body, crisp texture, low carbonation
Other comments: An OK beer, but a bit timid and unexciting. Perhaps it would be better if it wasn't bottled in a clear bottle.
