The Need For Steam is our homage to a classic American beer. One of the few "original" beer styles that had its origin in the USA, the California Common is considered a hybrid beer: a lager yeast that is allowed to ferment at warmer temperatures that kindles a slightly fruitier yeast profile.
Our version is brewed with English Pale, Munich, and Crystal 20, hopped exclusively with German-grown Northern Brewer hops, and fermented with West Coast Lager yeast. The result is a golden amber beer with orange highlights, and an off-white peach colored head. The aroma is a mix of light fruit and baked bread, coming across like a strawberry pie. The bitterness is mild, which balances against a malt forward finish.
