This is labelled as a Half & Half (but no option for that style on BA) but most closely resembles a Black IPA. The head is tan, creamy, thick and slowly collapses over time. It's doesn't appear to be heavily carbonated, but the head seems quite proteinaceous. The body is deep brown, with orange-red highlights, but mostly verging on black. The head seems to cling tightly to the glass. The aroma is bright and fruity hops up front, mixed with some roasty, cinnamon-like notes in the background. (Might be too cold to evaluate well right now) The flavor is a well balanced mix of porter and pale ale. Definitely drinks like a blend and not a straight porter. Yes, there are some wonderful, roasty, chocolate flavors that are center stage, but it has more bright hops than one would expect in a porter. (In this regard, it's definitely more like a Black IPA) The bitterness is restrained, but appropriate for the style. I get notes of white grapefruit, cinnamon, chocolate, pineapple, and toasted bread. Very interesting and unique.
