Poured a deep black as night, oilyy opague liquid. No hed at all, with some lace, but not that much. Didn't realize that they had suck a brew at Hops, and was quite happy when this was brought out. Had a somewhat muted smell, which was a bit dissapointing, what was there was a slightly roasted and smoked malt type of smell. The taste was dominated by strong flavors of burnt and smoked malts. Hints of chocolate and roasted coffee as it wwarmed up a bit, a suprising bitter dry hopped finish. This left me a bit shocked, I didn;t realize they made such quality seasonals at Hops, very cool. Carbonation was just about right, and the mouthfeel was light and tasted more like a porter then a stout. Overall this was a quality sessionable stout from Hops, very nicely done. I would like to see them bring more of this kinda brew to the table.

Appearance was very dark, with little head or lacing, perhaps due to pour since it was on tap. Smell was somewhat weak, predominantly roasted grain. Taste has a good dose of roast-grain bitterness. Not particularly complex, and the vanilla character noted by another reviewer didn't come through at all for me. Mouthfeel is somewhat thin, more like a porter than a stout. Lacks the creaminess I expect in an oatmeal stout. Drinkability is good, especially when it's two-for-one before seven o'clock!
