A light and refreshing pale ale with gentle touches of fresh spruce tips! The flavor profile is citrusy, piney and herbal.

Pint pour on draught at the brewery. Served in a tulip glass. It is a hazy, burnt orange color with a half finger of light tan, creamy foam and lacing. A nice appearance. It smells of sweet malts with the faintest whiff of spruce. I'm not impressed with the flavor. Initially, it offers sweet, bready malt. The spruce notes are well in the background. Perhaps they faded with age. But there is strong, off-putting bitterness. It doesn't seem resinous and I don't know whether the spruce in the boil has simply turned bitter. The ale is full-bodied for its 5.2% ABV. Overall, it comes across as disjointed. There is too little spruce and too much bitterness. I don't know whether it was brewed this way (I hope not) or reflects the normal aging process. I'd like to try it fresh some day.
