Tasted this beer by half-pint during Wetherspoon's May beerfestival. Said to be brewed exclusively for JD Wetherspoon to celebrate its 25th birthday in 2004, it's another interesting find amongst the whole range of festival beers this time round.
Appearance: it pours a light-straw hue, with minimum carbonation and a 3mm "thick" white beerhead. Not too bad but quite average-looking really.
Smell: refreshingly dry, grassy to lemon/orange-peel hoppy nose; some faint hint of hay emerges at the back.
Taste & Aftertaste: at first there comes mild grapefruity zesty flavour, gradually bringing out light chestnutty, chewable taste of malts, which is underlined by a sustained, medium-rich nutty but also crisply dry bitterness in the finish.
Mouthfeel & Drinkability: a decent bitter with a clear structure, its medium-rich flavour shines through an otherwise thin body; the overall balance b/w malts and hops (Herefordshire Northdown and Kentish Goldings hops) is healthy and no single element can be said to dominate in this beer. Another extremely nice and moreish beer by Titanic!
