17th Feb 2012: Hand pulled pint in ‘The Wrekin’ Wellington, Shropshire.

Brown/deep amber body colour: off-white almost beige head of foam on top which gave some good heavy lacing on my UK sleeve glass.

Pleasant smell: blend of citrusy hops and malty molasses (toffee mostly) with a mini nutty undertone.

The taste: More floral than the aromas, with a fairly dry bitter finish; OK more than great.

Body depth and feel about right for a UK 4.4% Bitter: another ‘above average brew’ from a brewery who’s beers I enjoy drinking.

Pint served at local wetherspoons.

A- Golden body with creamy 2 finger head, good retention and lacing.

S- Pretty bland, no real hoppy fruitness or malt profile at all, pretty boring.

T- subtle malt sweetness at first with hoppyness coming through, grapefruits, takes a bad turn into a medicinal quality in the end that coats the tongue and lingers. Not pleasing

M- Creamy, full bodied. low carbonation.

D- Pretty poor for me, no interesting smell and the aftertaste leaving my tongue coated was unpleasant. Pass!

The colour is amber; the liquid is somewhat cloudy. The finger thick head is pale beige.

The smell is very fruity (grape fruit, bitter oranges) and a bit bitter. It is probably a lot of cascade hops in this one.

The peculiar cascade hops grape fruits dominate the taste. The malt got a medium-strong body, but not much of sweetness. The aftertaste is bitter with lots of slowly descending grape fruits.

The carbonation is mild; the mouthfeel is creamy.

A very nice crossover of the English and American style bitters.
