(Notes of 24/04/2007) Tasted by a half-pint at the Capitol, a JDW pub at Forest Hill, SE London.
A: dark amber colour like well-infused Assam tea, coming with a well-lasting creamy froth and low carbonation.
S: lightly tart dark fruits in abundance, with a faint trace of musk as well; malts are very timid in the blend. Slightly unbalanced.
T: an attractive foretaste consisting of whisky-like rich malts is underlined by a sour undertone of stone-fruits, raisins, and chocolates... heavily hopped in the aftertaste, leaving plentiful tangy bitterness lingering.
M&D: quite fresh and the body holds well throughout; this ale shows an interesting blend of hops and malts, with a good tart-fruity backdrop.
