Tasted @ a JDW pub in Adover during the chain's 2010 autumn beer festival. Served by a non-sparkler pour.
A: very dark brown w/ mahogany glows; a creamy red-ish tan head comes w/ good retention, plus low carbonation and great clarity.
S: light roastiness+applely aroma+sweet-ish dark malts w/ a caramely&walnutty touch. A good swirl gives rise to US hop fragrance. Nice.
T: light-bodied, fruity hoppy & lightly sour pruney foretaste accompanies the roast malts, clean yet full of flavour, with but a touch of malt sweetness, yet quickly gives way to a mixed bitterness as of hops, burnt herbs & roastiness of black malts (hinting @ burnt walnuts). Long bitter finish but clean on palate.
M&D: clean, softly carbonated, med-bodied, delicious porter w/ a bit more hop entry than the normal English style, yet all in all still balanced and very very enjoyable.
