I am sampling a cold grolwer poured into a snifter. The beer pours a deep rich chocolate brown color with no light passing through. A 2 cm creamy tan head foams up and fades very slowly, leaving a sturdy surface layer. Aroma is nice mix of roasted malt, raisins, chocolate and hints of coffee grounds. First sip reveals an average body with a silky smooth texture and very fine tingly carbonation. Flavor is similar to nose with malt mixture of chocolate, coffee, and roast malt. Lingering roast flavors. No real hop presence to speak of or ABV, real easy drinker.

Had this one this afternoon at CBH, prior to Super Bowl XLI. All I can say is WOW. Pitch black, no way any light can get through. Aroma is of chocolate and burnt malt (not too much). The taste is heavenly and so very complex. Lotsa flavors dancing on the tongue, with choco dominating throughout, but not too much to drown out the rest. The mouthfeel was the smoothest I have had at CBH and may be one of the smoothest porters I have EVER had (including the benchmark Fuller's LP!!). At 7.7% ABV, I had to knock this one down to a 4.0 for drinkability, although a definite 5.0 if I had a ride home. Make sure you get to drink this one before it is tapped out. Dave, the best CBH brew yet IMO and one of the best beers I have ever sampled--Congrats!! I will picking up a few growlers next week.

Had one about an hour ago.

Appearance-Very dark with a small head.

Smell-Some malts and roasty smell. Very pleasent. High alcohol but no alcohol smell.

Taste-Wonderful. This is what a good Porter should taste like. I loved it. No alcohol taste. Flavorful malt taste.

Mouthfeel-Pleasent. Made my mouth feel good. Smooth.

Drinkability-Very drinkable. Perhaps the best Porter I have ever had. Nothing but good things to say about this beer and its only 8 miles from my condo. Price was right also.

Draught @ Brewpub: this one pours a very dark, opaque brown color. There was a very small tan head with a little bit of lacing. The nose is very roasty, with some chocolate notes also. The taste is roasty and chocolate malts, with just a touch of bitterness at the end. This is a very tasty brew. It is smooth and very drinkable. You almost don't realize the almost 8% ABV of this beer. I keep waiting for Steve to brew one that I can give him a little crititcism on, but he keeps putting out exceptional beers.
