Had this beer at the duodecouple (sp?) event. Poured into a snifter cold, the beer arrives dark cola brown with an edge layer of tan head and one island on the surface.
Aroma is primarily molasses and brown sugar. Some dark fruit and a little boozey. Very hearty scents make me expect a sipper for a beer. First sip is chewy body with almost no carbonation, bubbles that exist are soft and spacious like a cask. Flavor is robust malt and very roasty, some dark fruit with plums also mixing molasses, no hops anywhere to be found. A little warming boozeand some dry wood notes on the finish, maybe a bit of vanilla. The beer is for sure a sipper but very complex and very well crafted. An enjoyable beer that I am glad to have tried at CBH.

I had this on Draught tonight at The Cambridge House in Granby, poured into a Snifter.
A - Black to my eye with a creamy foam head that dissipated fairly quickly. When it was in the light it looked a really rich dark red/purple color.
S - Bourbon, Dark Chocolate, and a little bit of black coffee. It was a really really rich smell, that's the best way I can really put it.
T - Pretty much the same as it smelled. Definitely has a bit of that bourbon warmth that I love, and a nice roasted black coffee / dark chocolate kick at the end. As other reviewers have said, this is a really dry stout, and that's what I loved about it. It wasn't overly sweet at all from the chocolate flavors, as I said before, it was more of a roasted type taste. It was fantastic.
M - Smooth as a baby's bottom. No significant carbonation, and gosh-darn it, that's how I want my stouts to be!
D - Dangerously drinkable. The booze is ridiculously well hidden in there. I found myself wanting more immediately afterwards, but unfortunately, they refused to sell me a Growler of it because of the high ABV. Well, I guess I'll just have to keep on going back....

Draught in Granby: This is the first beer that I named! Served in a small snifter. This one pored an opaque, very dark brown. There was a bit of a tan head that leaves a bit of lacing. It needed to warm up a bit for the aroma to come through. The most prevalent aroma was bourbon, with some roasted malts and chocolate. The bourbon was not overpowering. This was fairly full bodied. Like the aroma, the bourbon taste is up front, but not overpowering. Some chocolate and roasted malts also. Surprisingly dry: no sweetness to it at all. This was good!

Poured into a snifter. Very excited to try this one. Gotta make the moonbeam my 50th review.
A - Black body with a beautiful brown head. Looks like desert in a glass.
S - Vanilla, oak, chocolate, coffee, spices, mmm.
T - The vanilla huge up front which I love. The chocolate and coffee were in the middle with a nice subtle oak finish. Everything worked perfectly together.
M - Nothing overpowered, such a smooth stout. From start to finish this one slid down like a flower petal on a silk slide.
D - 9.7 abv??? Wow. Couldn't even detect the alcohol. What a well done, well balanced stout. Aged perfectly in those bourbon barrels. Well done.

limited release for CBH's Duodecouple Day on 10/24/09, this Impy Stout was aged in Jim Beam barrels for 3 months
A - this stout is sublimely black with half a finger of golden-tan-brown head
S - the Jim Beam is the first thing I can sense, some of the alcohol, but all the sweetness, thats followed by vanilla/oakiness and woody/resiny aroma, and supported by a rich dark chocolate
T - the taste is deep resiny and woody, the JB and vanilla is a bit more subtle than the aroma and the unsweetened cocoa powder steps it up with some additional anise backup
M&D - ultra smooth, this beer is super drinkable for the power of the flavors and the ABV, the high ABV makes this a bit much, but its masked so well that you know it but cant taste it, CBH does it again
