my first from these guys, possibly ive never even heard of them before, but this can was so sexy it caught my eye, really cool modern packaging on it, subtle, thought from the dark side it was something from hubbards cave, similar lettering and stuff, anyway this is really special liquid from a brewery that is now most definitely on my radar! a porter with high end coffee and honey, both are prominent in here, and the overall quality is exceedingly professional, shockingly good even. black and satin shine with a chocolate brown head that rises well above the rim of the glass, some modest viscosity, a real looker, this foam is glorious. big coffee in the nose, very fresh, and resonating at a different pitch than the dark malt in here, neither one too bitter, and there is room for middle malt richness as well that highlights some of the coffee nuance, vanilla to me, caramel and brown sugar sweetness, and i do get the honey, floral and well incorporated, neat that in the flavor it manifests as more than just sweetness, this really does kind of taste like honey dissolved into good espresso, which is something we do at home all the time, rich and regal, crema and the coffee oils, light smoke and char, baked and enriched feeling, complex and hitting different notes from start to finish, a faint almost english yeast aspect, some waxiness from the honey too, cocoa powder, unlit cigar, and a super smooth feel and sweet long aftertaste, so good, on the edge of decadence but still drinkable for me, good carbonation and lighter to drink than it looks really, like aerated or something. super impressive beer, great coffee profile, neat with the honey, so keen to get into more from ronin, this is elite!
