Rail Werks Brewing Depot

Located in a former department store in a strip mall along Central Avenue in Columbia Heights. No other breweries are in this general area of town. Big interior space, with big windows at the front. High, exposed ceiling, painted black, and a concrete floor. Short U-shaped bar next to the ordering station. Other tables arranged on the floor. The space is not crowded. I did not see any outdoor patio. Small stage for performers. About 15 taps offering a standard range of styles. Beers were good and to style but nothing outstanding. Also serves liquor cocktails. Full kitchen offers smoked meats and sides, plus various sandwiches, burgers, nachos, and salads. Large adjacent parking lot. Friendly and informed staff. Railroad theme is not connected with the location but adds some charm. Cooler offers beer to go.
