Chunky yeast at the bottom of the glass, super hazy, muddy brown appearance. Malty aroma, sweet, roasted, mollasses noticed, some berry fruit. Palate, is quite smooth, sweetish, leans more towards the malts. Light toffee/choc/caramel, some tart berry fruit, and some light roast towards the end. I don't really know if i like it or not, the mouthfeel was a touch thin and limp, but pretty tasty i suppose.

a lot of wine makers are branching out into brewing these days and coonwarra are one of those. this particular brew is a really nice beer. shows a lot of characters youd expect from a winery doing a bit of brewing on the side.
lovely dark color that is darkish brown with an almost purple tinge when cold, and has a light brown colored head. lovely fruity nose, think plums, red grapes and blackberries, with a hint of malt and some perfumy hops, that get quite robust as it warms. rich flavor, not unlike a young holgates winter ale but smoother. again very fruity with berries, plums, some roasted notes, a little hint of chocolate and wood and gentle sweet malts. firm finish with crisp bitterness that has a fine lingering finish. great level of hoppiness thoughout. reminds me at times of a german schwarzbier. very tasty and very easy to drink.
one of the better rookie brewing attempts in australia, heres hoping coonawarra go out and expand their range and really get a foothold in the micro market here in this country. theyve showed a lot of potential here with a solid and enjoyable beer.

Vibrant deep black in colour.
Nose contains mostly roasted aromas of nuts and the like with some good leafy hops.
Very long and bitter taste, with flavours of coffee, caramel and intrestingly leafy/white fruity flavours like peach.
Could of had a bit more bite and power, perhaps more alcohol. Good honest beer from a great winery. Good to see them branching out.
