A coffee lover’s stout. Widening Gyre is packed to the brim with rich, dark coffee flavor and aroma from locally roasted beans by Athena Coffee Roasters. Hecate, a blend of beans from Indonesia and Mexico, added to the end of the boil contributes rich, roasty notes of bourbon, tobacco, and cinnamon; while Persephone, a blend of beans from the Dominican Republic and Mexico, added to the cold-conditioning beer in the fermenter contributes hints of more delicate, bright flavors and aromas such as strawberry, vanilla, and caramel.

This drinks more like a Porter, or possibly even a Brown Ale. It’s very thin and light for the style, and it has a malty, tannins flavor.

If I was to drink this blind, there is no way that I would guess this was a Stout. I’d absolutely guess this was an Imperial Coffee Brown Ale.
