I grabbed this randomly at Hi Times in Costa Mesa. 0.5L bottle. Labelled DARK in bold red letters. Dunkles Permium Bier. Label has an ugly bird cawing on a branch.
This beer pours a rich brown, orange at the bottom and auburn against a light. The head is a nice neutral white foam that leaves little lace. There is a strong aroma of caramel. Moderate carbonation. Very slow start for the flavor to hit -- makes me want to guzzle to get the flavor faster. Huge caramel flavor. Sorta in the vein of Malta Goya and other sweet, non-alcoholic malt sodas, except there is a bland bitterness that really keeps it dry or neutral. I happen to like this one dimensional caramel flavor(ing) alot. No hop flavor. Very clean and smooth. Light to medium bodied. Alcohol takes a long time to show up. Finish is a touch oily.
Overall: while the caramel is strong, it is a bit one dimensional. This would be appropriate as a session ale and as an intro beer to newbies.
