Look: Opaque medium orange, leaning red with a nicely formed head that holds for a bit before relenting and leaving great lacing behind
Aroma: Hatch chilis, capsaicin, light fruity hop notes, light smokiness, and bready malt
Taste: Fresh chili peppers and the smokiness attributed to them kick it off as light malt flavors follow and join in. Some light hop presence is barely discernable as the Hatch Chilis command the spotlight and closes with yep, more chili flavors
Mouthfeel: Full, medium-high carbonation, and finishes with an ever-so-slightly dry note that may be attributed to the chili peppers
Overall: I dig it. As a chili head and beer fan, I always have enjoyed chili beers and had this at these folks’ brewpub last year so pumped to see it bottles and at my local grocery store. Lots of good chili aromas and flavors throughout and tasty and well-made though my only knock would be calling it a ‘pale ale’ without a lot of detectable hop character
