Not only has Australia and New Zealand been drinking beer since Captain Cook landed there in the 18th Century, but thanks to him and his crew Down Under brewing got its start then as well when, in an attempt to prevent scurvy, his industrious team began using rimu (a tree that Cook confidently assumed was as safe as its look-a-like the American black-spruce) branches and leaves on Resolution Island in April 1773. 250 years ago!
In our attempt to celebrate this South Pacific anniversary we developed a dry-hopped (the process of adding hops to the beer during fermentation) Hazy IPA. This brew imparts a strong hop aroma and flavor while also creating the desired hazy appearance. Its high protein and yeast content adds body and mouthfeel to the beer while a creamy head results in a beer that is smooth, juicy, and packed with tropical and citrus flavors. The perfect combination for a quarter-millennium celebration of brewing history!
