German for Beer of Bavaria.
Weissbier is also called Weizen beer or Wheat beer. Made using at least 50 percent wheat, Weissbier is a yeasty brew with a characteristic citrus-fruit flavor and a refreshing aroma with hints of banana, apricot, and cloves. The head is fluffy and rich, and as Bavarian Weissbier typically are unfiltered, the color is cloudy, pale gold.

Tap pour into a Barn Door Pub pint glass. Pours a very hazy, medium coppery amber with a one finger white head with great retention and nice lacing. Aroma of wheat malt, apple, some light wheat graininess and a touch of banana. Taste is wheat malt, apple, grainy wheat, hints of light stone fruit and a little banana. Medium bodied with light to moderate creaminess. I intended to get a growler of this at the pub, but they were not set up for off-site sales, so I sat and had a pint. Very nice hefeweizen that seems to adhere closely to good old Weihenstephaner, which is my gold standard; the malt was one of the best domestic versions I've had. It's a bit darker and more coppery, but it is a nice look. Quite enjoyable.

Pint from draft at the small garage brewery in North Park. Proper Hefe. Looks great and has that heavy yeast character you expect. The story from the owner goes that some Germans were visiting and tried the Hefe and got into a shouting match because they thought it was an imported version, not brewed here in his tanks. I tend to agree, about as good as it gets stateside!
