750 ml bottle served cold into a tulip. LCBO purchase for $9.99 CDN. Super stoked to see this, I feel there's been a bit of an absence of bigger local one-off's in recent months, part of that is seasonal but part of it has been a preponderance of local 'session IPA's' lactose sours and fruit beers in general. Enough of this rambling on to the review.
Appearance - Crystal clear rich golden colored brew with very few bubbles. A finger or so of quick receding white head. Sparse curtain lacing surrounds the glass.
Smell - Grapes and white wine notes abound with some traditional earthy and funky notes. Some sweet candi sugar lies beneath all that.
Taste - Quite woody initially, with some earthy flavors, hints of white wine and grapes show through afterwards. Booze well concealed. Some black pepper towards the end and I suppose there's a suggestion of orange and possibly lime in there too. Wood flavors dominate up front, but the aftertaste is quite nice.
Mouthfeel - Medium bodied, drinks like a lower ABV beer than what it is, very dry finish and super crisp. Carbonation while not appearing to be there initially shows up in spades.
Overall - I don't love this beer, but it's a smart collaboration and pretty well executed. Really enjoyable and certainly a highlight of the Civic Holiday weekend.
