Notes via stream of consciousness: Basic label design, which is OK. Starting gravity of 12.7˚ Plato with an ABV of 5.6% and 30 IBUs. It’s made with Pilsner malt, light caramel malt, “diastase”, and Munich malt. Hops include Cascade, Citra, Hallertauer Mittelfrüh, and Hallertauer Blanc. It’s poured a hazy golden body beneath a finger’s width of slightly off white foam. The aroma is malty with a kind of biscuity cookie note, and a combination of floral, herbal, citrusy, and otherwise fruity hops. It’s an unusual combination that I’m not used to so I’ll just say that it’s not that strong and a lot of people won’t even notice it. The flavor is clearer in what’s going on as a note of gooseberry is quite clear. I can only assume that’s coming from the Hallertauer Blanc. It’s floral and white grape-like. That to me doesn’t work well with the more bready and biscuity malt that’s in play here as opposed to something more straightforward, but again, I’m not really used to this and it’s all personal preference. As a brewer myself, however, I’ll say that this seems a little complicated for no real reason and it comes of as a little muddied. It lacks focus. At least the bitterness is right on, and it’s nicely balanced leading to a mostly dry finish. In the mouth it’s medium bodied and gently crisp. So what to say about this that I haven’t already? I find it rather bland despite all of the different malts and hops in use, and I’d much rather have a crisp and clean, focused Pilsner or helles.
