L: Pours a dark brunette, which forms a fairly robust khaki head that is slow to fade. Leaves behind a robust coating of foamy retention on the surface, and a thick ring of lacing around the edge of the snifter. Held to the light, a near-black dark brown.
S: Tons of dark chocolate emanating from the bottle. When poured, the raspberries and lactose become more evident. Some roasted malt as well. Faint coffee.
T: Follows the nose - chocolate, raspberries, and lactose. Roasted malts and a hint of medium roast coffee. Some lingering alcohol burn in the back.
F: Medium bodied. A bit thinner than expected. Slick, smooth mouthfeel. Moderate levels of carbonation.
O: If judging only on the bottle art, this beer would get top marks. The product, however, is fairly average. It avoids being cloying but it also lacks a distinctive character, opting instead for the relative safety of plowing chocolate and fruit into a dessert stout. All things considered, it's a fine beer but it does underwhelm relative to Trouvaille's other stouts.
