Had Mississippi Hippie at the Lost Spring Community Taproom on draft into one of those stupid beer can-shaped glasses.
Pours hazy but bright, slightly-orange gold, with 1-finger, near-white head, which quickly dissipates to a persistent ring and partial film, and leaves only a few specks of lace down the glass. Initial aroma of citrus rind and a little pine resin, joined by some tangy fruit aromas as warms. On tasting, begins all big, sweet berry and orange, and crisp, but with a lactose-smooth body over a little mild malt, hinting at caramel, then there's a little sweet pineapple and/or pear, before biting citrus rind and a little pepper take over and carry into a very drying finish.
More of a middle-America IPA than NE, and a quick starter rather than a great finisher, but a nice amount of bite and fruit for a mid-range IPA, with (apparently) some lactose and a little malt presence to keep it balanced and drinkable.
