Carolina Shoulder is a quintessential traditional German smoked lager with a clean fermentation profile. Smoked malts balance well with residual sweetness and hop bitterness. Think nice smoked bacon, not campfire ash.
As a side note, the name is two-fold, when Amanda and I met ever so long ago, we decided to move to Charleston to experience "life." This is an homage to a place that still holds a special place for Amanda and myself. The second part is that a good Carolina BBQ is pretty fantastic, though not as good as KC BBQ, of course.

Pours a crystal clear deep golden yellow. Head is a finger of white foam. Aroma is smoke potent. Crackers, wafers, and breads fill out some support with mild clove just behind. Hops come by way of spicy and herbal. Flavor profile is smoke laced crackers, wafers, bread, and biscuits. Malt heavy with mild herbal and spicy hops behind. Less smoke in the flavor than the nose, though it is still ever present. Mouth feel is medium in thickness. Texture is crisp and refreshing. Overall, a crispy smoky lager.
