Red Panther Brewing Co. hails from Clarksdale, Mississippi, the seat of Coahoma County.
In the language of the Choctaw,
“Coahoma” translates to “Red Panther.”

Across from the local library through a chain link fenced in patio next to a sundries and seed store, the interior is a warehouse, though refurbished and decorated with some local or native flare. The fairly short but comfortable bar has a freshly polished wood top bellied up by cushioned leather chairs that at times, one can imagine, risk a little swamp ass in the heat of the delta.
I honestly couldn't believe we were lucky enough to have a craft brewery in Clarksdale in the first place, let alone one worth hanging at before dinner and some blues shows. As such, my expectations weren't sky high, and the first couple sips of some hoppier brews almost confirmed my bias. However, once I tried their kolsch--properly poured--I realized their lager game was where it's at. It was one of the best examples of the style I've had in the states, while their altbier just further certified this as a place to plop down for some contemplative refreshments while the southern sun is at its hottest.
The vibe, at least in the tail end of this "off season," is a very jovial but not boisterous hometown bar with friendly patrons who are all quite approachable. Many are local business owners curious to learn what brings a tired soul in before the summer chills out. Several suggestions were happily absorbed here, though this time of year they're a little more limited, but Red Panther is sure to keep the blues going on the speakers in the meantime.
