Newest brewer's reserve released to coincide with the Otago thyme festival. Pours a standard english PA cooper with a small off-white head and mild carbonation. Looks normal but then... BIG aroma of wild Central Otago thyme with an underlying sweetness. Little worried going into the taste now. Thyme isn't nearly as over-aggressive in the taste but still the dominate component. A mild syrup sweetness comes through in the middle (the thyme honey I would guess) and mild bitterness at the end. Dry finish due more to the thyme than mild hop presence. Takes a little getting used to at first but goes down quickly after the 4/5th drag with surprisingly little palate fatigue. Certainly one of the more unique beers I've had in quite some time. Worth a try just for the novelty of it.
