Opalescent light yellow color, with an average white foam, quite creamy.
Yeast in the smell, but also some off flavours, not too pleasant.
In the taste the flaws are less detectable, but still, nothing to remember. A bit of hop, yeast.
Malty aftertaste, some yeast in the back.
Quite banal.

0.3L rook-style tower glass from tap at Zum Stiefel. The nose is greeted by a subtle light sulfur, similar to the aroma of a cattle farm that was just rained on. My first zwickel so bear with me.
Upon presntation - creamy white head that quickly disappates. First sip - very strong essence of barley, bitter taste on the tongue. Poweful and lingering, similar to the experience of chewing on a peppercorn but much less uncomfortable. Virtually no lace as the beer level drops.
Pale straw color with minimal bubbling or carbonation in a 9" high tube glass looks more like an elixer than a beer.
A real character. Perhaps we'll meet again.

I am a big fan of the Zwickel style, it is very refreshing and is pretty hard to come across in America.
Bruch's offering pours out a light murky golden color, light fluffy head, good retention, leaving nice amounts of lacing.
Smell is light, citrusy, and yeasty. The Zwickel style falls somewhere in between a Hefe and a Pils. Light citrusy yeast, light nutty maltiness, clean smelling.
Taste is very nice. Slightly creamy citrus fruits gives way to a light, delicate maltiness. I detect almost a hazelnut flavor from the toasted malts. A light woody flavor comes through in the middle, then all ends in a light citrs note once again that lingers nicely with the nutty malt notes. Orange glazed hazelnuts?
Mouthfeel is more carbonated than a Hefe, and smoother than a Pils, renforcing the HefemeetsPils style.
Overall quite drinkable and refreshing

Beer bottle (50cl), tasted in 2002.
Appearance : orange color, with white foamy head (lacing).
Smell : malty and yeasty aromas.
Taste and mouthfeel : citrus-fruity with delicate herbal hops, bitter finish.
Drinkability : a good beer in the German Keller/Zwickel style.
