Brewed with a plethora of dark malts and oats, fermented open with our house English strain, and aged with vanilla beans and cocoa nibs, this stout is at once rich but still drinkable, a true balance of new school intensity and old school sensibility.

Poured into a Fremont small snifter. Pours a very dark mahogany brown, appearing nearly opaque in the glass with a thin milk chocolate head that dissipates to sparse patches with light lacing. Aroma of dark toasted malt, cocoa, Postum and vanilla. Flavor is dry, dark toasted malt, bakers chocolate, vanilla and some dark molasses; a touch of leather. Medium bodied with light to moderate creaminess. The description mentions English malt and this has a profile of an English export stout, but more robust and with greater malt depth malt. The vanilla and cocoa nibs are use with a light hand, but add a nice layer of flavor. Very nice dry chocolate malt finish. I enjoyed this quite a bit and regret I only got one can. A worthy anniversary stout for Ilk. Well done.
