Had this on tap at Damon's in Michigan City.
A - a caramel color that is a golden brown with a hint of deep purple that seems to come through it. It had really no head at all when brought out to me and have to say it seemed like it was all cut away as there was some lacing left on the glass. All that remained where a few dots of white foam that sat on top of the beer.
S - smell was some caramel malt mostly as that is what seemed to dominate. Was a little surprised when I picked up some a bit of a prune smell and a light cinnamon spice that seemed to emanate from it.
T- Taste at first was a lot of dark, candied grape flavors as it first it reminded me a bit of the flavors of a port. There was also a sweet caramel malt presence that stood out as well. Against these flavors there seemed to be a lemon and orange fruitiness which came in and really seemed to cut through the other flavors as this citrus really stood out to me in the aftertaste. On the whole, everything was there but nothing really stood out and didn't really feel any kind of flavor explosion as most of the flavors were good but subtle.
MF - a thick and syrupy aspect to the body; there was also just enough carbonation to cut through the body and to allow that lemon and orange flavor pop out a bit more.
D - overall this was a good beer that I was happy to have the chance to try and was happy to see Damon's support a local brewery. It went pretty good with the barbeque flavors but have to say I was not really impressed that much either. This was a good beer but not one that I would ever think of seeking out.
