This one just showed up in my liquor store but I am doubting that it's the 2008 yet, so I'm gonna assume it's 2007 since there was dust on the bottles.
Poured from a 12 oz. bottle into a pilsener glass. Leaves some decent lacing on the glass.
Appears an opaque black with an inch and a half tan head that sinks down to a hefty skim after a few minutes.
Aroma is fabulous. It's like a milk stout combined with a Baltic porter. Lots of creaminess with roasty notes, and lots of dark fruit like berries, raisins, and figs, molasses, and brown sugar.
The taste starts with some roasty notes and caramel before it rounds out with some dark fruit, coffee, and a mild smokiness.
Mouthfeel is medium-full, thick and chewy, but extremely soft on the palate. Goes down way too easy.
Wow, this stuff is great. Easily the best beer I've ever had from Back Road. I might have to purchase some more of this stuff while it's still available.
