From a 500ml bottle. Bottle 173 out of 185.
There was a bit of a hiss and smoke upon opening the bottle. The beer is pitch black and thick looking in the glass. There's a thick 2 finger brown colored head to the beer. I am pretty happy with the head retention. There's no lacing on the glass.
I am getting a huge dark fruit hit on my nose from the beer. So much raisin, plum and fig. I do also get some notes of chocolate, caramel and toffee. There's also hints of vanilla.
Taste - There's a boozy cola flavor up front. This fades and I get the delicious stout flavors. I get the dark fruits in the middle which are full of fig, plum, and raisin. The finish is toffee, vanilla, chocolate and caramel.
The body has that alcohol burn right away. Overall it is very full bodied and smooth.
This is a very delicious beer that I'm so happy I picked up. Very impressed with this small town Iowa brewery.
