Transcribed from Notes of 24/10/2006, this was the eighth beer tasted at the Capitol, a JDW pub in Forest Hill, SE London, during the chains Full Moon Beer Festival.
A: dark reddish amber with great clarity, coming with a fluffy, thin off-white foamy head, on top of low carbonation.
S: Fuggle's tea-leafy hops plus a faintly sour edge of Golding's fruitiness, quite understated on top of even more muted maltiness... a swirl brings out more pronounced fruits, but it's still quite simplistic and lacks a better input from malts.
T: light-bodied, toasted nutty malts dominate the palate, ensued closely by dried-leafy Fuggle hops and a soothing bitterness as of dried nuts, chopped roasted tea-leaves, with an additional touch of dried grapefruit peels... the mouthfeel turns cleaner in the end, while still showing a chewy, lingering bitterness to linger.
M&D: light-bodied and softly carbonated, this is a traditional bitter with a rather crisp edge. Not too special, but on form and easy drinking it is.
