The cult beer from the stirrup closure bottle. In honor of the church patron St. Ulrich in Berg, a festival was first celebrated in 1911 at the brewery yard. There was also a beer with a special recipe. From then on, it was served at every Ulrichsfest. Since 1981, the Ulrichsbier has been brewed all year round. With its robust malt aroma, the "Uli" simply tastes more delicious. Refined with Tettnanger and Hallertauer hops and matured in the open vat fermentation, it is the unique among the mountain beer specialties.

From the cool 2 liter flip top bottle, it pours a pretty solid amber color with a modest white head that soon diminishes to a ring, island and a bit of lacing. The nose gets a solid dose of caramel with grainy notes, followed by the mouth getting a nice malty lager flavor with caramel notes and a bit of spice. Easy drinking amber lager!

Picked up a 0,33L swing-top bottle dated best by 17.02.24 from the local Edeka during a weekly trip. Back label mentions "Bottich-Gärung" which I've translated to "Vat Fermented." One of the breweries they're recently stocking and I'm happy to try anything from them. This is a unique beer. Pours a very light amber-brown, lighter than any other "brown" beer I've ever seen. Aroma, flavor, and body are all approachable. A very drinkable beer, likely due to the beer being brewed for a local festival. Malt character is very subdued, with light caramel and dark bread notes. A sweet, sugary finish to make this an enjoyable beer. I'd definitely drink again. For the style, it's remarkable.

Pours a crystal clear, deep golden amber coloration with a small, frothy head. Smells of bready, slighty grainy, toasted and caramelly malt and grassy, herbal hops. Taste follows the nose, with a good balance of bready, slightyl grainy, toasted and caramelly malt and grassy, herbal hops, as well as a certain nuttiness and just a hint of dark fruit also coming through. Finishes with a light bitterness and some dark malts and grassy hops lingering in the aftertaste. Smooth mouthfeel with a light/medium body and medium carbonation.

This makes for a rather nice Amber Lager with a clear focus on the dark malts, although some grassy, slightly bitter hops are also coming through, creating a very pleasant overall balance here. It's that certain toasted, nutty character with just a touch of dates which stands out here though, although this still remains a rather light and easy-drinking beer at heart. Overall, this makes for an enjoyable Amber Lager that strikes a great balance of sweet and bitter notes, easy-drinkability and subtle richness of malt-forward character, although feeling just a tad light-bodied.

I had a bottle of this at the end of a tradeshow day. It was in a grolsch style resealable porcelain cork. I liked this a lot but I have no idea why it's called a German Pilsner. It was much too malty for that.

I drank it out of a bottle (I know) so I'm not sure what it looked like.

The aroma was very malty with a lot of dark fruit

The flavor was also very malty with dark fruit and pretty good carbonation.

Next time I try one of these I'll pour it into a glass and re-report.

A: Pours a nice brown hue with a tan head.

S: Bold aromas of toasted malt, brown sugar, and toffee.

T: Malty up front as well. Candied malt, brown sugar, toffee, and a big toasted malt. The middle to finish is quite hoppy and bitter. Long bitter finish.

M: Medium in body, rich, with a hopped up finish.

D: Pretty good. Very unique for a german beer.
