Picked up in a gas station in southern Bavaria, the standard brown half liter bottle features a gold and brown label sporting a sketch of a monastery above the name. Purity law applies. Best before 7/31/07, I opened it on 4/14/07.
Pours a clear cola brown under a 1.5 finger dark tan head that fades slowly but surely to spotty film and collar, but can't generate any lace. Wonderful nose of sweet caramel and bready grain. The mouth is quite light and fairly prickly. Nice taste, with a bit of caramel and a touch of roasted nuts. The hops lurk in the background throughout, really never emerging but also never really disappearing. The bitter is mild and spicey more than anything else. There is only an echo of the bitterness in the aftertaste, which is also mild and mainly caramel sweet. Nice quaffable brew.
